The GreenHouse Shop

We are lucky enough to have our very own mini-garden centre on site. The GreenHouse Shop (located in the glasshouses on the Horticuture department) is open every week day 9pm - 4pm.

We sell a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants, gifts, flowers and supplies. We also have a large plant nursery with all sorts of shrubs and climbers. Our stock reflects the changing seasons so look out for Winter bedding and hanging baskets at the moment and Christmas trees, wreaths and planters coming soon.

With the help of our Floristy students we have recently completed a rennovation of the shop and it's now a lovely bright and airy place. Glasshouse Technician Aaron Hickman constructed the fantastic dresser and dressing table for displaying items.

whilst the students, Janet Newton-Storey (Glasshouse Technician) and Kate Pepper (Floristry tutor) got busy with the paint brushes turning old, worn out units into new display pieces for plants.

Our prices are VERY reasonable and our highly experienced technicians Aaron and Janet are on hand to offer any advice and guidance needed.
Please feel free to visit us in the shop anytime Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm. The shop is also open to the public so please spread the word to friends and family.

You can order bouquets through us and we can even cater for wedding and funeral flowers. Contact Tamsin Hullah (308) or Kate Pepper 307) for further details or e-mail tamsin.hullah@askham-bryan.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Rasberry Pruning

We were invited by a local 'Pick Your Own' farm in Askham Bryan to see if our students would like some experience of pruning rasberry canes on a large scale.

The farm owner gave the students a demonstration and then left us to it.

Many rasberries pruned..............

but still many more to go!
It was a great 'working in the industry' experience for the students and we're hoping to take another gorup there over the next couple of weeks.

Harvest Festival of Flowers

Our Floristry department was approached by Askham Bryan church to see if they could help with decorating the church and grounds in preparation for their Harvest Festival.

The Level 2 Diploma in Floristry students created some beautiful and imaginative Autumn-inspired displays including these fantastic pumpkins!

On Thursday they visited the church to install the decorations in preparation for the festival this Sunday. The church looked fantastic when they had finished and will be enjoyed by many people over the coming weekend.

Bouquets Galore!

Last week Floristry tutor Kate Pepper, along with the help of Glasshouse technicians Janet Newton-Storey, Aaron Hickman and Jo Untisz spent the day putting together 32 identical bouquets for a North Yorshire Coucil event that was being held at the College. The bouqets were to be presented to foster carers who had earned a 'long service' award for ther dedication to fostering. We wanted to make them look extra special as they were for such a worthwhile cause so chose bright cheery pinks complimented by zingy limes.

Aaron had never made a bouquet before and was very proud when he completed his first one!

As well as large orders like this, the floristry department can also make individual bouquets for special occasions. Just contact Tamsin on 01904 772308 or e-mail tamsin.hullah@askham-bryan.ac.uk with your requirements.
